Wall Prep & Cable Detection

Prep the Surface:

Remove all picture hooks, wall plugs, and switch covers (ensure power is isolated if removing faceplates). Wipe down the wall to remove grease and loose paint.

Scan for Hazards:

Press the board firmly against the wall, sliding it slightly to distribute the glue. Verify it is perfectly plumb with your level. Drive a few lost head nails or brad pins through the timber and into the wall to mechanically hold it while the adhesive cures.

Install Cladding Board Seams

Insert and Tap:

If using tongue and groove boards, slot the tongue of the next board snugly into the groove of the preceding board. Tap gently using a scrap wood block to avoid damaging the profile.

Check Level Frequently:

Place your spirit level across every third board to make sure your panelling is not slowly drifting out of plumb.

Caulk, Fill, and Sand to Finish

Fill the Joints:

Once all panels are mounted, fill all brad pin holes with wood filler. Gun a neat line of flexible decorators caulk along the side junctions where the timber meets the adjacent walls.

Sanding Flush:

Let the filler dry completely. Wrap your 180-grit sanding sheet around a sanding block and sand down all filled patches until they are perfectly flush and smooth to the touch, ready for paint or varnish.
