Step-by-Step DIY Installation Guide

01

Inspect Your Gutters & Clear Blockages

Pinpoint the Leak:

Look for stained brickwork, dripping joints, or dripping water marks underneath the gutter line. The most common weak points are union brackets, corner pieces, and stop ends.

Scoop the Slurry:

Set up your ladder safely using a standoff. Put on your heavy-duty gloves and manually clear out all moss, compost, and leaf clutter into a bucket.

Flush the Line:

Run a hosepipe or water bucket through the gutter run to find any low points where water sags or pools instead of flowing directly down to the outlet.

Clean the Joint & Remove Old Sealant

Unclip the Union:

Most modern PVC gutters feature union clips that pop open. Carefully disengage the clips on either side of the leaking joint to expose the internal nesting area.

Scrub the Channel:

Use a wire brush to remove compressed dirt, degraded rubber gaskets, or peeling old sealant layer leftovers. Wipe down the interior channel surface with a dry cloth.

Replace Rubber Seals & Apply Sealant

Seat the Gasket:

If the existing rubber gasket is flattened or perished, pull it out. Push-fit a fresh, matching replacement rubber gasket into the union track slot using your thumbs.

For older or worn gutter systems where matching seals are unavailable, load your silicone gutter sealant into a caulking gun. Apply a continuous 5mm bead of flexible gutter sealant directly along the inner joint path.

Snap Back Together:

Carefully press the gutter segments back into the union bracket assembly and snap the locking clips shut. Clean away any excess sealant squeeze-out with a gloved finger.

Fix Sagging Runs & Replace Broken Brackets

Check Alignment:

Gutters should fall gently toward the downpipe outlet (a standard rule of 5mm fall for every 1 metre of gutter length).

Replace Brackets:

Remove any brittle or cracked brackets. Align the new bracket with the correct height line and fix it into the wooden fascia board using rustproof stainless steel screws. Space your structural support brackets no further than 800mm apart to handle heavy winter snow or rain pooling.

Fit Downpipe Balloon Guards

Insert the Cages:

Take your downpipe balloon guards and squeeze the bottom prongs slightly. Push them directly down into each downpipe intake opening.

Roll Out and Size:

Unroll your mesh leaf guard over the top open face of the gutter run. Trim sections down cleanly with a utility knife to fit your lengths.

Secure the Screen:
