Standard Timber Framing Yield Specs:

  • On-Center (OC) Spacing: Standard load-bearing timber walls are spaced at 400mm (16 inches) OC. Internal non-load bearing partitions often use 600mm (24 inches) OC.
  • Wall Plates: Standard building codes mandate a double top plate for load-bearing walls to overlap joints at wall corners and intersections, plus a single bottom plate attached to the subfloor or slab.
  • Corner & Opening Framing: Extra studs are calculated to provide corner drywall backing channels (3-stud corners) and window/door rough openings (king studs, trimmer/jack studs, and structural headers).
  • Wastage Allowance: A 10% to 15% allowance is standard to accommodate end trimmings, bowed timber, or knot defects.
