Our Story

Our history dates back to 1884 when James Doyle founded Doyles of the Shamrock. Since then, the business has grown through four generations of family ownership. Under the leadership of Michael Doyle, the company expanded from a traditional hardware, grocery, and bar business into a leading builders’ merchant and hardware retailer.

In 2004, the business relocated to a modern site in Graiguecullen, providing customers with easy access and ample free parking. Following a major modernisation programme, the business joined Ireland’s largest buying group and was rebranded as Topline Doyles in 2007. Today, the MP Doyle Group operates successful stores in Carlow and Tullow and employs more than 100 people.

Our Story

The Archer family business began in 1912 when Thomas Archer established a builders’ merchants in Ballina, County Mayo. Over four generations, the company has grown steadily, guided by a strong commitment to quality, innovation, and customer service.

Throughout its history, Archers has adapted to changing times, overcoming challenges including wartime timber shortages by developing its own timber production operations. The business expanded over the decades, relocating and investing in modern facilities while continuing to serve the needs of local communities.

Today, with major retail and trade locations in Ballina and Castlebar, Topline Archers offers one of the most extensive selections of building, home, and garden products in the region.
